Day 1: The Start of Something Big

Ahhhh, Day 1.

Crap.  How will I not f*** this up this time?

Well, first, in the words of my nutritionist Nancy Dale, “Fail to plan?  Plan to fail.”  Amen.

So, my plan is a bit unorthodox, at least in the beginning.  I want to reproduce the results from the documentary movie “Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead.”  The movie centers mostly around an overweight Australian businessman Joe Cross who travels to the U.S. to undergo a green juice cleanse while the process is captured by a documentary film crew.  (Much of the movie’s charm comes from a series of man-on-the-street interviews with typical Americans who defend their less-than-healthy eating choices.)  But the green juice cleanse is the star of the show, and the big winners are the folks who agree to do it.  The results are dramatic.

In short, I believe in the concept, and I want the results for myself.

I actually did the green juice fast before, and I liked it.  I made it nine days the last time, and on the final day, a colleague made it a point to tell me how much better I looked.  I want that again.

The juice cleanse won’t be forever.  I just want to purge everything bad out of my system and get a clean restart.  I’m so ready.

I’m prepared for the tidal wave of less-than-supportive commentary from my peeps on this one.  A lot of people are going to think that this journey is ill-advised, medically unsafe, unsustainable or otherwise just silly.

I don’t care.  I want my health back.  I want a reset.

So, the journey begins.  In the meantime, I’m going to start exploring all of the ways that this can fail and writing about them here.  Somehow, it feels like I can effectively combat these opportunities for failure by identifying them and preparing for them.
